Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) needed to capitalize on its Internet Portal usage, seeking better communication with its stakeholders from Students, Parents, Educators and Partners, through revamping the existing portal to a new attractive, interactive, easy-to-use portal.
Having the know-how of the education sector needs along with ITWORX long track record in developing Public Portals, ITWORX migrated ADEC portal from SharePoint 2007 to a full-fledged SharePoint 2010 Portal.
The new Portal comes in a new interactive design to enrich user experience and facilitate portal navigation. Through the home page visitors can access the latest publications (where files can either be downloaded in PDF format or be read online), researches, ads, events, news, media galleries, school locators, as well as the various services offered by ADEC. In addition visitors can also search for any subject either in English or Arabic languages; search results are displayed in user-friendly sortable views.
To ensure portal performance and optimize infrastructure usage, ITWORX used SharePoint 2010 and SQL Server 2008 R2 feature to store large media files on the file system and not in the content database.
The solution enables portal administrators to easily manage the content updating processes; they are able to edit, delete, or update portal content through simple steps and Microsoft Office like screens. The process is controlled by SharePoint workflow steps to ensure the quality of content and the smoothness of the update process.
Moreover, ADEC Administrators can easily create separate sites for ADEC events, where each event has its own registration process, media gallery, etc.
Building the portal on SharePoint 2010 provides ADEC with many out-of-the-box reports which allow tracking of portal visitors and their preferences such as traffic, inventory, and search reports.
